Philadelphia Jewelry Appraisers is owned and operated by Gemologist and Diamond Grader Joshua M. Hyman, G.G. (GIA) and allows walk-ins and also takes appointments. All gemstone identification, grading and valuation is done in front of the client and most single items take between 20-30 minutes to complete. This appraisal company's office is right in the middle of Jeweler's Row in Center City Philadelphia, on the second floor and is a comfortable, enjoyable environment with many mineral specimens, gemological books and gemology related paintings.

Philadelphia Jewelry Appraisers exists to provide the area with professional, accurate appraisals principally for the purpose of obtaining insurance. In the last 10 years Joshua has started and runs the largest gemological forum on facebook, has attended over 10 gemological seminars and symposiums, started a gemological podcast called Gemology Worldwide and turned his lab into a high tech institution of Philadelphia with advanced equipment including the GIA iD100, Raman spectroscopy & a UV-VIS machine manufactured by Magilabs in Europe.

Joshua is a 4^th generation jeweler on Jeweler's Row (Sansom Street). His great grandfather was a metals buyer, his grandfather a bench jeweler, his father a polisher and his entire family participated in the family business. In 1990 Joshua went to school in Idar-Oberstein, Germany (a historic gem trade center) to study gemstone cutting and gemology. He fell in love with the science of gemstones and immediately started studying to become a Graduate Gemologist at the prestigious Gemological Institute of America and graduated in 1992. Since then he has spent his entire career buying, selling, managing and appraising jewelry. From retail sales while living overseas for 4 years, to pawn shop buying while living in other parts of the US. In 2000 he moved his wife and children back to Philadelphia where he worked until 2011 as a wholesale supplier.
