About this Appraiser

With many years’ experience, DeAnn Schmidt, an experienced Gemologist and Jewelry Appraiser, will provide a discrete and professional valuation service in your office, your insurance providers office, home, bank vault or Lawyer’s office in The Villages and surrounding cities. Once a mutually agreeable day and time and place is set, DeAnn will meet you with the equipment required to perform an expert appraisal of your precious items. All items will be examined in your presence during which time, all gems and diamonds will be tested and graded, all grades of gold and platinum will be established, the manufacturing techniques employed and where possible, the maker will be identified. All these factors contribute towards a complete and clear description and an accurate assessment of the true worth of your jewelry, gemstones, diamonds and watches based on your needs. The final appraisal report contains comprehensive support documentation and photographs and comply with the criteria laid down by USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice).

DeAnn has spent over 35 years in the retail, manufacturing and wholesale areas of the industry. She is very familiar with techniques, processes and quality design and construction of modern jewelry, as well as being familiar with what repairs look like on older items of jewelry. This knowledge is crucial in understanding the costs involved in the reconstruction, replacement and/or true value of your gems and jewelry.

DeAnn has visited and purchased rough and cut stones in the heart of the Thai gem cutting center. This gives her hands on experience in identifying tricks and treatments used by those wishing to trick the public. It also gives her valuable insights into the gem markets and values... critical if you are needing advice on how to replace a lost or damaged item.

Following training with the Gemological Institute of America in diamonds, diamond grading, gemstones and gem identification, this jewelry expert specializes in appraisals for Insurance Replacement and Fair Market Value (and all its sub-divisions) but carries out evaluations for all purposes. Damage assessments and jewelry purchase verification consultations and reports are also available. DeAnn is also available for informational talks on gemstones, appraisals and estate distribution suggestions for small groups. Ms Schmidt is a Certified Paralegal and Notary Public and uses this this training and experience to assist clients requiring litigation support in jewelry and gemological related cases.
