Independent Jewelry Appraisers is a full-service appraisal consultancy based in Lancaster PA, offering jewelry appraisals and gemological services to members of the public and retail jewelers throughout the region.
Headed by Graduate Gemologist and Valuer, Katy M Clites GG, this company provides appraisals for all purposes, including; Fair Market Value (for estate or divorce), Insurance Replacement, Purchase Verification etc. All value conclusions are professionally presented in a detailed appraisal document that includes all a description of all the value elements of the item and detailed photographs. Fine jewelry and watches of all types including antique, period and contemporary are appraised on a while-you-wait basis.
Consumer Appraisals
Katy deals directly with private clients from her comfortable and secure office, by appointment only. Your precious possessions will be assessed in your presence and you will typically leave her office with your completed documentation for your insurance company or Attorney. If Katy is required to examine a large collection of jewelry, diamonds and watches, your appraisal report will follow in a few days. This company also has a mobile gemological laboratory enabling Katy, or one of her associates, to visit your home, office or bank vault where the appraisal process is performed on-site.
Appraisals at jewelry stores
Many fine jewelry stores hold appraisal events enabling their customers to book an appointment on the day of the event, meet the Appraiser and have their items assessed and valued in front of them. Katy and her associates are very experienced in this area and invite respected jewelry stores to enquire how she and her team can provide an exceptional service to their valued clients in-store.

Katy is Highly Recommended
Katy appraised my Tanzanite jewelry that I purchased from Antigua. While I was waiting she gave me information to read about the quality of Tanzanite, which was extremely helpful and expanded my knowledge. Now I know what to look for in my next purchase.
Katy was very friendly and outgoing and made me feel very comfortable about choosing her for my appraisals. She answered all the questions I had and then some. I highly recommend her for all your jewelry appraisals.

Great Experience
I had two rings appraised by Katy for insurance purposes. I felt completely secure in the knowledge that Katy's credentials would ensure an accurate and informed appraisal. The rings were appraised while I waited. I received a very professional brochure with detailed paperwork on each ring!
Expertise / Items Examined: A Tiffany and Co.5 stone platinum and diamond ring with a center blue sapphire stone. Tiffany and Co. Schlumberger 16 stone ring with diamonds and pink sapphires set in 18k gold and platnium.

Very Professional & Knowledgeable
After returning home from a cruise on which we had purchased ‘Crown of Light’ diamonds, we were looking to get them appraised. As we searched for an independent Jewelry Appraiser we were surprised at all the negative comments aimed at Diamonds International (and I might add more than a little scared). We contacted Katy at Independent Jewelry Appraisals to set up an appointment, despite most of her work requiring travelling, our call was still returned in a timely manner. We arrived at Katy’s office to find her waiting for us. We were cordially welcomed and amazed how quickly and meticulously she went to work while we waited. I might add that I initially underestimated the amount of jewelry my wife had but Katy was gracious and took the time to complete all the appraisals in one afternoon. I thought her fee was very reasonable and were relieved that we did very well in our purchases at Diamonds International and that the quality of jewelry was excellent.

We had purchased a Crown of Light diamond necklace in St. Maarten’s and wanted to verify both the quality of the necklace and the value to ensure we truly received what we paid for. We contacted Katy, who is a licensed gemologist and a member of the Jewelry Appraisers of the World (JAW), via email and she promptly responded back, setting up an appointment at our convenience. When we arrived at her office, she was very welcoming and made us feel extremely comfortable and right at home! We sat with Katy the entire time she did her appraisal, approximately an hour, providing us with details of her findings..step by step. What an education we had!
We totally enjoyed the experience and were completely satisfied with Katy’s appraisal report. We would highly recommend Katy to anyone/everyone for future appraisals of their fine jewelry!

Excellent Experience
I had the pleasure of meeting with Katy Clites when needing to have several pieces appraised, some of which were ‘Crown of Light’ diamond pieces. I had purchased them in Bermuda and needed to know whether I paid fair prices and needed appraisals for my insurance policy.
Katy’s office was very presentable and she was welcoming and quite personable. After speaking to her regarding my items, I found her to be extremely knowledgeable in her field and felt I had chosen the right person for my needs.
Katy needed approximately an hour to complete her work, so my husband and I drove through the outlet mall just down the street and got a quick bite to eat. Upon returning she had almost completed her task. We discussed my new treasures and she educated me as to exactly what I had and the correct values of each piece. Katy’s appraisals are very nice and could not be any more thorough. I received a standard print copy as well as a wonderful glossy copy. Both had pictures of each of my items. The cost was very reasonable.
I hope to continue adding to my jewelry collection and will certainly be happy to return to Katy for all my appraising needs. She is worth the hour and a half drive.
