Melissa Scarani, GG (GIA), FGA – Appraisal Manager
Melissa Scarani is an active gemologist who has been in the retail market for over 20 years, working for top credentialed jewelers of the American Gem Society (AGS). Melissa gained first-hand experience with world-famous brands like Rolex, Breitling, David Yurman, and many others. She also worked with fine antique jewelry for over a decade, becoming knowledgeable about the different periods of jewelry and brands such as Tiffany, Cartier, Buccellati, and David Webb.
Alberto Scarani, GG (IGI) – Gemological Laboratory Manager
Alberto Scarani is a goldsmith, Graduate Gemologist (IGI Antwerp), appraiser of the Chamber of Commerce, and Registered Expert of the Tribunal of Rome. He and Mikko Åström founded M&A Gemological Instruments in 2012, now called Magilabs, a company that produces advanced gemological instruments and developed Raman, UV-Vis-NIR, FTIR, and fluorescence spectrometers.
He has been a member of the UNI Commission ‘UNI/CT 010/GL 01 - Gemme e metalli preziosi’ for the revision of UNI rules about gems and precious metals. In addition to teaching, lecturing, and conducting workshops at Gem-A, AGA, HRD, MGJC, IGE, and Rome, Naples, and Bari universities, he is a jewelry and gemology author and journalist. The Rivista Italiana di Gemmologia is one of his publications. He received, with Mikko Åström, the Antonio C. Bonanno Award for Excellence in Gemology by the Accredited Gemologists Association in 2019.
