Chaya Udinsky is a Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and has over 15 years experience in the jewelry trade. She is also proud to be a Member of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers. This is assurance for her clients that she is well qualified to write their appraisals as well as consult with them about their fine jewelry.

The appraisal of your jewelry, gems and diamonds is normally carried out at Ms. Udinsky’s office and gemological laboratory in Carrboro, close to Chapel Hill and within easy reach of Durham, Raleigh and Cary. You can make an appointment at this office, drop your items off to be collected later once the appraisal and valuation has been completed. A while-you-wait and "rush service" is available at a modest extra cost. Alternatively, many clients like the convenience of this company’s home visit service throughout the entire Research Triangle region. Your jewelry will be appraised at your home personally by Chaya and your appraisal documents will follow a short while later.

A variety of appraisal reports are offered for all purposes, all are written in a detailed, clear and logical style and include photographs. Diamond plot diagrams are also included where appropriate. In addition to insurance appraisals, Chaya also offers estate appraisals for inheritance purposes, donation appraisals, pre-purchase evaluations, and evaluations to assist you in selling your gems. Diamond reports, damage analysis, loss-of-value reports are also provided on request. All appraisal reports are USPAP compliant (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice), as required by by all good insurance companies and Lawyers.

This business has a totally transparent pricing structure for their appraisal fees as they are based on the number of items. This allows Chaya to give you an exact quote for her appraisal work prior to starting examination and valuation of the item. The only exception to the per-item rule is when the piece is very complex, for instance numerous diamonds and gemstones, or when the jewel requires research that extends beyond the norm, provenance needing to be investigated is a good example. Even under these conditions, a firm quote is given for your consideration before work commences.
