About this Appraiser

What kind of an appraisal do you need? Do you plan to purchase or have just bought a major item and want to confirm its identity and value? Did you buy something while on vacation and now have second thoughts? Is there an estate to settle or a divorce proceeding which requires a valuation by a-qualified expert? Do you or your attorney need experienced expert testimony? If you need an understanding professional who is empathetic and compassionate about the myriad of difficult situations the public gets involved in, David Atlas is your right appraiser.

Are you one of many folks concerned about leaving your jewelry somewhere for an extended period of time for an appraisal? Atlas normally appraises most items in front of the clients. If you ever choose to leave some lesser items with David you′ll get them back with little delay.

If you need work done at your location, David can do that. If you want a firm estimate of cost before work proceeds, no problem. If you want to have updated values as the market changes re-calculated for a reasonable, partial fee, David will cooperate. If you need assurance that your records are going to be kept confidentially, this business keeps them in a secure cloud based platform, not on their local desktop and always provide hard printed, sealed original reports, but are well equipped to produce electronic versions upon request.

David Atlas has a family history in the diamond and jewelry business which began in 1898 with his grandfather. Over these many years the business evolved from a diamond dealer and jewelry manufacturing business, into a major marketer and buyer of estate jewelry while continuing in the diamond dealing and manufacturing of new diamond and colored gemstone jewelry. In 1957, David’s father was trained by Marcus and Co of New York City as an appraiser. He had already earned one of the earliest GIA Graduate Gemologist titles in 1954. When David entered the business in 1967 getting a firm grip on the manufacturing processes was the first step, but by 1973 David was becoming a trained appraiser and gemologist under the guidance of his father, but also by taking the courses offered by ASA, ISA, AGS and the GIA. In 1973 David became a Certified Gemologist, AGS and in 1974 became a Graduate Gemologist, GIA. In 1977 he became a senior member of a well recognized appraisal organization, and has continued since with appraisal education and leadership opportunities.

Mr. Atlas continues to follow the path of professional, life-long education begun in the 1960s and throughout his nearly five decades in the industry. Now, at this stage of life, David often teaches, writes and lectures as Associate Director of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers on the topics which appraisers need to understand in order to provide the excellence of work the world demands today of professional practitioners. As the Chairman of Ethical Issues for NAJA, Atlas is recognized as an influential leader in the appraisal professional. David Atlas has been chosen as a trusted judge of right and wrong within the appraisal practices of over 700 of his peers who also perform gem and jewelry appraisals. You can count on David to do what is right based on his knowledge and years of experience.

Peace of Mind

I would gladly recommend David Atlas to anyone who has ever had a problem or conflicting appraisals. His professionalism and thoughtfulness in explaining the different aspects of the industry were a great relief to me. My problems were all solved and we were very impressed with the speed at which he was willing to help us. I was glad to meet someone with so much experience (50 years) that truly enjoys what he does!

Time Well Spent

My husband and I wanted an appraisal for insurance purposes and were given David′s name by our insurance broker. David was able to do much of the preliminary work while we were in his office. As he was working, he was able to answer our questions and share a little of his vast knowledge. We received an emailed appraisal within 24 hours of leaving his office (Hard copy to follow). We welcome the opportunity to recommend David S. Atlas.

All I can say is that I could have not asked for more professional and pleasant service. I decided to contact Dave Atlas for an independent appraisal based on many detailed recommendations regarding his expertise and customer service on the Pricescope Diamond Forum. I am based outside of the US and wanted to put my mind at ease when considering a diamond ring purchase. I received excellent service, detailed and very fast responses to all my inquiries. Honestly, there was a long email exchange between us, David always responded patiently and within hours. I apologise retrospectively for being such a time consuming client - but it has been a learning process for me. He gave essential support with the shipping of the item and its insurance. Issues that I was unaware of beforehand were also sorted out smoothly. Since the appraisal I am referring to in this review, we have collaborated again and should I ever need an appraisal in the US I will definitely turn to Dave Atlas.
